Instructions for Registering to Vote in New York Elections

If you want a say in how your city and state are governed, you have to register to vote.

Are You Qualified to Vote in New York?

You're qualified to vote in New York if:
  • You are a U.S. citizen;
  • You are 18 years old;
  • You have lived at your present address at least 30 days at the time of the election in which you wish to vote;
  • You are not in jail or on parole for a felony conviction; and
  • You do not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

How to Register to Vote in New York

Manhattan residents can register to vote in several different ways.

  1. You can register in person at your county Board of Elections. For Manhattan residents, the location for in-person registration is:
